macro algae in sump

i was thinking of putting some macro algae in my sump to help get rid of some algae was wondering if i need light on it or if it will do ok in the dark

i would at least add a grow lux no bulb.

The macro definitely need light to grow. The algae grows using light, as it grows it absorbs nutrients to help clean the water. If it's in the dark it will slowly die inturn adding all of it's stored nutrients back into the water.

i have an old flourecent hood could i use that would it be enough it small 24" maybe little bigger
