I have been a recent member, but I have a couple of suggestions I would like to throw in. I think they would benefit the club and the exposure.

1. Is there any way to get someone to update the website? There are tank tour pictures from 1999 for god's sake. There was a tank tour this past summer and there will be one next year too. I could volunteer to take tons of pictures of people's tanks and set ups during those tours so we can post them weekly during the tank tours. Don't know how to do the web stuff, so someone else would have to volunteer for that.

2. Could we please be more active at adding new members to the e-mail list! I have someone else forward them to me because 4 months later I still don't get any of them!

3. Could we update the library list and the e-mail for the librarian on the web site? It has only been 4 months since we have had a new librarian and the e-mail address is not there yet.

4. Could we develop a buddy system for the new people in the hobby? We would apir up the new guy to someone in the club that could guide them with some of the set up, equipment, stock questions at the begining. Of course, coming to the meetings and asking other epople there is also another great way, but this way the new guy has someone to introduce him/her to some of the other memebers. It is just easier I think.

5. Could we actually reply to the posts in the forum? It is pretty bad when someone post something and you see the topic has been viewed 32 times, but there is no replies at all!! You know more than have could add something, so why don't we??

I think making the website more up to date and getting more active on the board is a must. I look at the WAMAS site because I am a member of that club as well, and they have 10-20+ posts daily! Now, they only have quaterly meetings and yet they are so much more active. They also actively participate with the stores in the area, which is something that I think we should also do more often.

These are just suggestions and I just hope nobody gets offended over it.

Well stated Alberto!

I think a Buddy/Mentor program is a great idea. This should be brought up at the next meeting. I would be willing to volunteer to manage that program. I know that the feedback that you and George have given me has probably saved me alot of money and the lives of many corals.

I think the library issue will be resolved soon. Scott was at the last meeting and actally had the library with him. He made mention of a database that he is maintaining to track inventory.

As far as the web site is concerned. I'm not sure if it maintained by an active member or someone that is doing CMAS a favor. If it is the latter, perhaps a member could volunteer to help out.

Mike

18 views and one reply. Is that a reflection of lack of interest to improve?? http://www.cmas-md.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Alberto,

I agree with your post and I was hoping someone on the CMAS administration would actually answer to this post. I think this topic should be brought up at the next meeting. I feel this board should help promote the club but when everyone is afraid to reply or post topics then we get nowhere. I also agree that the pics on the site are way outdated. Heck half those tanks don't even exist anymore. I know there was talk about updating the site a year ago and a little was done but like you said there was a tank tour in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Where are those pics or were all the tanks on the tour for the last three years just that terrible that we're ashamed to post them to the site??? I know the person who is maintaing the website and I know he does a serious amount of traveling everyweek but he also has agreed to maintain the website even though he's no longer an active member of the club. I think some updating is definitely in order.
